A Joplin Globe Newspaper In Education Partnership Project with Spiva Center for the Arts and Joplin R-VIII

Have YOU ever considered becoming a cartoonist? Now's your chance to try!
Below is a blank space in which we would like you to create your very own cartoon character!

Complete your character and submit it to:

The Joplin Globe, Educational Services, P. O. Box 7, Joplin, MO 64802

The deadline for cartoons to arrive at The Globe is Friday, Dec. 17. All cartoons will be featured on the Arts of the Four States website, www.4statearts.com, beginning in January. The winner will receive five class sessions through the Spiva 2005 Young Artists Studio.

ARTIST’S TIP:
A good approach to creating your own cartoon
character is to utilize simple shapes, such as the circles and
ovals you see here in the dinosaur.

Another technique is to take inanimate objects, such as
pencils, lamps, or chairs - you name it- and give them human

Ready? Grab your pencil and get started!
