George A. Spiva Center for the Arts is proud to announce its upcoming exhibit “Interior Landscapes: The Art of Still Life”, featuring a diverse exhibition of still life paintings. The opening reception for members will be Friday, Sept. 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The exhibit will open to the public beginning Saturday, Sept. 27th through Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003.

The exhibit will feature a selection of work by artists Philomene Bennett, whose table-top portraits are an investigation of color, shapes, and composition; Jeff Legg, whose style reflects that of a classical realist in the tradition of the great masters of 17th century Europe; and Jim Bray, whose perspective is reflected in his figurative landscapes.

Also featured will be various works (18 pieces by 12 different artists) from the collection of the Springfield Art Museum. Featured will be work by Phillip Pearlstein, a nationally recognized contemporary realist painter; Billy Morrow Jackson, a contemporary American realist; Wayne Thiebaud, who has been described as one of the most gifted realist artists in America; and Carolyn Brady, one of the countries foremost watercolorists. Other artists include Karen Frey, Jane Frey, Brian Paulsen, Donald Bonacela, Mignonette Y. Cheng, (Byron) Kent Addison, Hugh C. Yorty, and Jerry W. Bowman.

In addition to this new exhibit in the Main Gallery, the Regional Focus Gallery will present a new exhibit by Jim Bray.

Spiva Center for the Arts is located at 3rd & Wall in downtown Joplin. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The museum is open to the public and there is no charge for admission.
