Vintage Car Rally!
 
60+ cars from 1948 and earlier will be stopping in Joplin during their timed rally race & will be on view for all to see on Tuesday, June 24. Come out to welcome these unique cars from a bygone era & help Joplin win first prize as the most welcoming city on the rally route!

Return of the Yellow Peril: A Survey of the Work of Roger Shimomura 1969-2007. Sponsored by Commerce Bancshares Foundation and the William T. Kemper Foundation, this thought-provoking national touring exhibit explores racism, stereotypes, and prejudice through Shimomura’s use of concentrated color, pop culture references, and striking interpretations of current events and Asian American life in the U.S.
 
Additional support for Return of the Yellow Peril is provided by an Anonymous Art Center Family, the Friends of St. Avips, and the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.

The Nuts & Bolts of Art. Fiber artists reinvent time-honored textile arts in this exhibit of handwoven wire garments by Kansas City artist Ny Wetmore and non-traditional, small format art quilts by several regional artists, including members of Town and Country Quilters.

It’s 12x12 Time Again!
Deadline for entries is 5 p.m., Friday, August 15!
Every year Spiva members participate in what has become one of the most inspired and inspiring events of the year!
 
Artists receive a free 12” square of masonite that provides the support and format for an original work of art which is then donated to Spiva for auction.
 
All proceeds from the silent auction benefit Spiva Center for the Arts and its programs for children & adults..
 
Artists working in any medium may enter, as long as the 12x12 format is honored.
 
The prospectus that comes with your 12x12 will give you all the details and requirements. 3-D artists may submit pedestal work as long as the work does not exceed 12” in any dimension.
 
The 2008 12x12 auction begins Friday, August 22 at the opening of Midwestern Sensibilities and continues until 7p.m., Friday, November 7 when the bidding ends at the opening reception of the
61st Annual Membership Show.
 
Any member in good standing may create a 12x12, and everyone is welcome to bid—online or in person at Spiva!
