Located in the downtown arts district of Springfield, Mo. is the newly opened, charming boutique and art gallery known as “Good Girl Art Gallery”. Lil Olive, the owner and reason for the charm of the gallery, has chosen a blend of artists and art; from amazingly painted gourds to pottery, and photography, to oil on canvas, and much, much, more. Each work of art delights the eyes and dazzles the mind with the sort of edge that opens the eyes wide and then nods the head, as if to say, “Oh, I get it”!
The Grand Opening of Lil Olive’s Gallery catered to an evening elbow to elbow with admirers and “the curious” alike.
The hall gallery displays still life paintings with a lot of life to them; the intimacy of the space allows respectful enjoyment, the compelling titles oblige. Amanda Middaugh, the artist with a lot more to say than, “fruit”, has a consistent collection of work for the viewer to enjoy. “Tart” is the billing for the exhibit, not to say that these are not ripe for viewing. Very tastefully displayed and enjoyed with smiles!
The elegance of Lil and Tomi, her dear friend and assistant, were gracefully shown with the classic look of a grand party.
Tomi is featured by the candelabras glow showcasing the table of plenty for their guests to enjoy. the candle lit room just outside of the hall gallery gave a place to converse and enjoy the fountain of wine and feast of art and artists.
The main gallery space with high ceilings and a sense of openness greets you with the many artists Lil collects and introduces. Two of the artists come from the ozarkartistscolony.com web site created and promoted by The Joplin Globe; Michele DeSutter and me, Kim Kissel. Other artists are from such states as Arizona, Alaska, New Orleans, Colorado, and California. Lil’s gallery of artists promise to excite the mind and stir the emotions, not just another pretty picture, yet there is no exclusion of beauty to the experience. As Kat Kissel (my daughter) and I begin our tour of the arts district for 1st Fridays art walk we meet and mingle with the others as each gallery presents itself.
My thanks to Good Girl Art Gallery for opening the doors to a selection of art that promotes the kind of edge and quality we are looking for. Just ask for Lil or Tomi at: (417) 865-7055. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tues. - Sat.

"I didn't even know there was an "art district" in Springfield, and I've lived here all of my life! Is that what the district is officially called? Or is it just a euphemism for "Walnut Street". Although the work I've seen from this gallery isn't my cup of tea, I'm still glad to see more businesses in the area devoted to art."
