George A. Spiva Center for the Arts is offering several opportunities for your child to be creative and explore the arts this spring and summer.

"Dragons Be Wee: Dragon Building K-3!"
An afternoon of mixed-media dragon construction and folk tales for children. Bring a snack if you'd like, and any unique materials you'd like to use to decorate your dragon! Instructors: Webb City art educators Anne-Marie Gailey and Sam Lewis.
Saturday, May 15
Time: 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Class size: 20 students.
Fee: $20

"Clay Days!"
Handbuilding for young artists
Session One: June 7-11, Age 5 through Grade 2
Section one: 9:00 to 10:15 a.m.
Section two: 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Instructor: Lisa Hewlett, PreK - 5 teacher and senior Art Ed major at
MSSU.
Session Two: June 14 - 18, Grades 3 through 5
Section one: 9:00 to 10:15 a.m.
Section two: 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Instructor: Genii Kress, award-winning Studio Art major at MSSU
Supplies: Bring a hand towel and wear old clothes, or bring an apron, too.
Class size: 15 students per session
Fees: $50 per session; $40 for Spiva members

"Fairy Tales and Photography" will be offered throughout the month. Students will design and build 3-dimensional sets, costumes and props, then photograph the fairy tale portrait.
Instructors: fine art photographer Andrea Land and art educator Anne-Marie Gailey.
Session One: Full days, July 5 through 9.
Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Grades: 1 through 8
Supplies: Students will be responsible for bringing a sack lunch. Cameras and materials for creating costumes and props will be furnished; students may choose to bring additional items from home after meeting with instructors.
Class size: 25 students per session
Fees: $100 per session; $80 for Spiva members
Session Two: Half days, Monday through Friday, July 12-23
(Session Two is a two-week class)
Time: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Grades: 1 through 5
Supplies: Cameras and materials for creating costumes and props will be furnished; students may choose to bring additional items from home after meeting with instructors.
Class size: 25 students per session
Fees: $100 per session; $80 for Spiva members
Session Three: Half days, Monday through Friday, July 12-23
(Session Three is a two-week class)

Grades: 4 through 8

"Drawn to Paint!" Learn to draw: explore line, form and value, then use your imagination and skill of hand to paint the "unobserved" in plain sight!
Instructor: Brenda Sageng, working artist and art educator.

Time: 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Grades 3 through 7
Supplies: Bring an 11" x 14" spiral-bound sketch book
Class size: 12 students per session
Fees: $50 per session; $40 for Spiva members
Session Two: July 26-30
Time: 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Grades 8 and above
Supplies: Bring an 11" x 14" spiral-bound sketch book

"Watercolor Workshops with John Fitzgibbon" Learn the secrets of this wonderful medium from a national award-winning watercolorist. His simple, easy to understand approach has been mastered by students worldwide. Demonstrations and guided practice.
Session One: "Beginning Watercolor." For students with little or no experience.
Dates: Full days, August 5, 6 and 7.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.
Ages: High School freshmen through adult.
Supplies: Supply list will be mailed on receipt of paid registration.
Class size: 15 students per session
Fees: $100 per session; $90 for Spiva members
Session Two: "Intermediate Watercolor." For students with painting experience who want to learn more about composition and technique.
Dates: Full days, August 12, 13 and 14.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.
Ages: High School freshmen through adult.
Supplies: Supply list will be mailed on receipt of paid registration.
Class size: 15 students per session
Fees: $100 per session; $90 for Spiva members
All classes take place at Spiva Center for the Arts at 3rd and Wall in downtown Joplin.
Enrollment fees are non-refundable; telephone registrations are not accepted.
