The week of July 26 through 30 students in grades 3 through 7 and grades 8 and above have learned to draw by exploring line, form, and value at George A. Spiva Center for the Arts. Twenty-one students are participating in the morning and afternoon classes. Motorcycles from the current exhibit “Art and the Open Road: Motorcycles, Images, Icons” in the main gallery were used as objects of artistic study.

Brenda Sageng the instructor of “Drawn to Paint” recently completed her B.A. in Studio Art at MSSU with her area of concentration being drawing and painting. She also received a B.S., Elementary Education, Art Ed. minor in 1979 from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Brenda works in a variety of drawing mediums, watercolor and oils, but recently has been doing more 3-D art in wood and metal. Brenda states - “The human form and our connection to the natural world is a strong influence in my composition; as well as the notion of small organic changes, creating or destroying both natural and man-made structures”.

Katherine Hoynacki a MSSU art student & Spiva’s weekend docent assisted Brenda during the workshop.
