Call for great stuff — Auction, Rummage & Treasure Sale to benefit Spiva Center
Memorial Hall in Joplin will be the scene of the second annual Auction, Rummage and Treasure Sale (ARTS) to benefit Spiva Center for the Arts. The sale takes place Saturday, October 1, 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The auction of items “too good to go at rummage sale prices” begins as a silent auction, then goes live at 1:00 p.m. Live bidding will begin with the highest bid on the silent auction sheet.

Throughout the sale, parents can drop their kids at the secure “SpivaKidsZone” where children ages 3 and up can make art, while parents enjoy 30 minutes of child-free shopping.

Spiva staff and volunteers will continue to gather items until noon Friday, September 30. “We’re requesting clean, working, gently-used things for the sale, as well as auction items that are too good to go at rummage sale prices,” director Jo Mueller stated.

“Contributing to the ARTS is an opportunity to clear out the clutter and feel good about helping a worthy cause,” she continued. Proceeds from the sale help support the art center, which offers exhibits to the public free of charge.

Another reason to donate items to the Spiva sale? Their value is tax-deductible. “We’ll save people the hassle of having their own garage sales and provide a form to document their tax-deductible contributions to the art center.”

Spiva is accepting things large and small: housewares, knickknacks, sporting goods, books, compact discs, toys, electronics, furniture, cars, even boats.

If people aren’t able to drop off their items at Spiva, volunteers will pick them up. To schedule item pick-up or arrange to drop things at the center, call 417-623-0183 or email Dorothy People interested in volunteering the week of the sale should contact Diana Fleischaker, 781-4009 or

Contribute what you have, but aren’t using, and help us share the gift of art with children & adults all year long.

Spiva Center for the Arts is not affiliated with the City of Joplin. The center is supported through memberships, contributions, grants and proceeds from special fundraisers such as the ARTS. Although tuition is charged for classes, Spiva works to provide scholarships, especially for children’s classes.

Thank you!

Spiva Center for the Arts is located at Third and Wall in downtown Joplin. Gallery and gift shop hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
