Andy Thomas is a nationally recognized painter from Carthage, Missouri, whose paintings sell for thousands of dollars at shows and galleries across the country. Yet the lucky winner of the Andy Thomas Portrait Raffle sponsored by Spiva Center for the Arts could have a portrait painted by this masterful artist for a mere $20!
On Sunday, February 12, Andy Thomas will present a lecture and portrait painting demonstration at Spiva, 2-4 p.m. The winner will be the model for the demonstration and will receive the portrait—an oil on canvas—that Andy completes during the presentation.
Now until Wednesday, February 8, 2006, anyone 18 years or age or older can purchase a $20 chance and be entered in the Andy Thomas Portrait Raffle. Any number of chances may be purchased at $20 per chance. (Please note that chances are NOT tax deductible.) Each $20 chance must be paid in full to Spiva Center for the Arts and received (NOT postmarked) by 5 p.m., February 8 to be eligible. Chances may be purchased during Spiva business hours, in person, by mail, or by phone using MC or VISA. Winner selected by random drawing will be contacted by 5 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2006, and must respond by 5 p.m., Friday, February 10, or forfeits. It is suggested that winner be able to sit still for at least one hour. Complete terms and conditions are available online at www.spivaarts.org or upon request.
Starting with a blank canvas and a live model, Andy will present his step-by-step approach to capturing a likeness while producing an oil on canvas portrait. He will offer tips on drawing, color mixing, brush selection, and painting techniques. Dina Thomas will provide invaluable career development information and strategies that have worked for this successful husband-wife team. The session will be informal, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions! Andy will sign copies of his book, The Artful Journey, available for purchase at Spiva.
