Summertime classes at Spiva Center
It's summertime and a great time to take a fun class at Spiva Center for the Arts. And if you're a member, you get a 10% discount off the price of tuition! (Supply fees are not eligible for a discount.) Please note that adults may attend any of the classes listed below, too!

Beginning TUESDAY, June 13, 10am–Noon: DIMENSIONAL DINOSAURS CLASS. Bend, shape, wind, and wrap wire to create dinosaur sculptures and mobiles. For KIDS ages 8 & up & TEENS. 3-week class (June 13, 20, 27): $36 + $4 for supplies.

Beginning TUESDAY, June 13, 1–3pm: INTRO TO PRINTMAKING CLASS. Learn about famous printmakers and how to do relief printmaking using ink roller techniques and styrofoam trays for plates. For KIDS ages 6 & up & TEENS . 3-week class (June 13, 20, 27): $36 + $4 for supplies.

Beginning WEDNESDAY, June 14, 10am–Noon: SELF-PORTRAIT BOOK CLASS. Make a self-portrait puzzle book with folded pages that unfurl to reveal drawings, collage, found objects, words, and pictures. For KIDS ages 10 & up & TEENS. 3-week class (June 14, 21, 28) $36 + $4 for supplies.

Beginning WEDNESDAY, June 14, 1–3pm LINOLEUM PRINTMAKING CLASS. Students learn to develop a print through engraving a block surface and using transfer techniques that create the final image. For KIDS ages 10 & up & TEENS. 3-week class (June 14, 21, 28) $36 + $4 for supplies.

Beginning THURSDAY, June 15, 10am–Noon: PREHISTORIC POTTERY CLASS. Students will create everything from faux fossils to inventing their own original dinosaurs. For KIDS ages 8 & up & TEENS. 3-week class (June 15, 22, 29) $36 + $4 for supplies.

Beginning THURSDAY, June 15, 1–3pm: CREATIVE CREATIONS IN CLAY CLASS. Students experience hours of fun while exploring the different styles and techniques of working with clay. For KIDS ages 8 & up & TEENS. 3-week class (June 15, 22, 29) $36 + $4 for supplies.

SATURDAY, JUNE 17, 10am – 2: “DINO-DRAWING” with Richard Courtney. Spend the morning learning to draw fantastic creatures from the past with professional book illustrator Richard Courtney. After a brown bag lunch, we’ll go DINOSAURING MAIN STREET, decorating store windows with prehistoric creatures! A fun day for kids and parents/adults! Anyone age 11 or older. FREE but please register: 623-0183.

To be fully enrolled, advance registration and prepayment are required before the first class session. Enrollment may be completed by phone, mail, or walk-in during regular business hours, with payment made using a credit card (Mastercard, Visa), cash, check, or money order. Tuition and fees are non-refundable unless the class is cancelled by Spiva.

And don't miss Spiva's summer blockbuster exhibit, DinoStories/DinoArt! on display through August 26. Kids, teens, and even adults will be excited to take a painting or sculpture class for imagining and fashioning prehistoric creatures!

Spiva Center for the Arts is located at Third and Wall in downtown Joplin. Spiva galleries and gift shop are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10am–5pm, and Sundays, 1–5pm. Admission to the Main Gallery is by voluntary contribution. Suggested donations are $2 for adults, $1 for students. Make a contribution and get a ticket to WIN a digital enlargement of a Richard Courtney illustration! One ticket per visit...visit often!
