Art in the Afternoon • Slide talk with Laura Van Buren • Main Gallery
Surrounded by the 1830s prints of Karl Bodmer & George Catlin, Laura Van Buren will create a framework for Catlin’s work: influences on the artist and how the artist influenced society’s view of native people and their cultures. Do his paintings and prints portray a “true” record of Native American peoples? Explore the question during Laura’s slide talk, “In the Name of God, Country, and Science: Putting Catlin in Context.” Free admission. This event is sponsored by A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc.
EXHIBITS:
In the Main Gallery: American Exploration: Prints by Karl Bodmer and George Catlin.
