Have you ever wanted to try oil painting but didn’t know where to begin?

Here’s your chance to learn from award-winning artist Theresa Rankin

Theresa Rankin in a two part workshop, “The Essentials of a Good Painting: Working from a Photo.”

Rankin, who received back to back “Best of Show” awards at the Thomas Hart Benton Exhibition and Competition in 2006 and 2007, will help students recreate a favorite photo in oil on canvas. She also will focus on color mixing and brush stroke technique.

According to the artist, “painting from life is always best, but many people use photos. I’m going to help students avoid the pitfalls and obvious mistakes many people make when painting from photos.”

The class will be held at Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin on consecutive Saturdays beginning February 23rd, from 1–5pm, and continuing March 1st, 1–5pm.

Tuition for the 2-week class is $60 (non-members) or $54 for Spiva members, plus the cost of supplies. The supply list will be provided upon registration. Students are asked to bring a photo from home.

Spiva Center for the Arts is located at 222 West 3rd Street at Wall Avenue in Joplin. Advance registration and prepayment are required to be enrolled in a class at Spiva. Payment may be made in person, by mail, or by phone with MasterCard or Visa.
