Joplin native Dennis Weaver graduated from Joplin High School in 1941 and attended Joplin Junior College in 1943. He began his television career in 1955 as Sheriff Matt Dillon1s deputy Chester Goode in the highly successful western “Gunsmoke.” Three years later, Weaver won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Dramatic Series. Weaver continued to star in numerous dramatic television series and motion pictures.
