28. John Wise Home/YWCA

(1898; Local Historical Trail marker on the site)

The Joplin YWCA was first established in 1905 but languished without a suitable home for the next fifteen years. In the fall of 1920, John F. Wise sold his house to the Young Woman1s Christian Association for $15,000. Architect August Michaelis designed the Queen Anne-style dwelling for the Wise family in 1898. (504 Byers)
