32. Ewert Park

(1924)

(5th and School)

Paul A. Ewert, a Joplin attorney, moved to Kansas City in 1922 and became an assistant United States Attorney General. On February 19, 1924 Ewert deeded fourteen acres of land to the City of Joplin as a park for the black community. After his death, his will provided funds to construct a swimming pool in the park plus a gift of $10,000 to the Joplin public school system to buy clothing for needy schoolgirls.
