36. Oak Hill/Twin Hills Country Club (1911)
(Tanyard Road and 20th Street)

Joplin's Oak Hill was established in 1911. Englishman John Hood designed the original nine-hole course. The first club house, a converted mine shack, consisted of three rooms. Oak Hill employed three head pros who later excelled on the Professional Golfers Tour--ten-time tour event winner Ky Laffoon and Hall of Fame members Ed Dudley and Horton Smith, a.k.a. the “Joplin Ghost.” Oak Hill later added nine additional holes and, in 1947, changed its name to Twin Hills.
