41. Union Depot
(1910-1911; Local Historical Trail
marker on the site)
(behind 1st and Main)

This innovative structure by well-known Kansas City architect Louis Singleton Curtiss features glass-curtain-wall and reinforced-concrete construction. Stylistically, it embodies prairie design with Aztec-inspired decorative elements. The 30-acre tract occupied by the depot is adjacent to the 1870 Sergeant and Moffet lead strike site. The Union Depot was the city1s hub for train transportation until 1969. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
