46. Lincoln School
(1908; demolished)
(815 East 7th)

The Joplin school district purchased the lot for $5,000 and spent another $12,000 to build a schoolhouse at 815 East 7th Street. The two-story, four-room school served African-American students. Long-time Lincoln School principal Marion William Dial was elected in 1954 to the Joplin City Council. Dial, the first African-American in the state of Missouri to be elected to a city council, was also the first president of the Southwest Missouri Negro Teacher1s Association.
