48. Inter-State Grocery
(1915)
(1027 Main)

The 130,000 square-foot warehouse was completed at a cost of $225,000.
Joplin building contractors Bane and Hoffman used 600,000 pounds of steel rods and 64 concrete structure columns to shore up the five-story structure. Each floor of the warehouse was equipped with speaking tubes, which were modern for the day. These communication tubes eliminated the need for a large corps of office boys running memos from floor to floor.
