52. Christman's/Macy's
(1917)
(501-505 Main)

Peter A. Christman and Edmund A. Bliedung opened Christman Dry Goods Store in 1890. Eventually they relocated their store to the southeast corner of Fifth and Main Streets and built, in 1917, a five-story, fireproof, reinforced concrete structure. Designed by the Michaelis brothers, the $150,000 department store featured an electric elevator and built-in sprinkler system.
