55. Redings Mill

(1832; demolished)
(East of Shoal Creek bridge)

John S. Reding built his first mill on Shoal Creek in 1832. Later, in 1868, he built a four and a half story mill. Because dynamite had not been introduced in this section of the country, the mill was anchored with solid iron pins, measuring three inches in diameter, which were imbedded in the stone. By 1906 the mill's capacity was 100 barrels a day. All that remains of the mill are a few pieces of the solid foundation that still breaks Shoal Creek.
