56. Parkway Cemetery
(1920s) Osborne Cemetery (1930s)
(33rd Street and McClelland Boulevard)

In the late 1920s the Jesse F. Osborne family donated 200 acres to establish the city's first African-American cemetery. In addition to the burial grounds, there was originally a camping and picnic area. Across the street on the west side, the Osborne Cemetery opened in the early 1930s. The cemetery's original 500 acres included a chapel and lake with walkways to an island in the middle. However, the area was whittled down to a mere 60 acres as land was sold off for development.
